Tom Ingram wows the field with brilliant win at BTCC season opener

Following an incredible maiden win at the British Touring Cars Championship (BTCC) season opener at Brands Hatch last weekend, we’d like to say a huge congratulations to Tom Ingram from the entire Hansford Sensors’ team.
Although he found himself under constant pressure from Honda duo Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal – a pairing with five BTCC titles between them – Tom produced a calm, skilful and mature lights-to-flag drive to hold his rivals at bay and cross the finish line more than two seconds clear to secure an amazing win in the first race of the season.
This was Tom and Speedworks Motorsports’ first win in the BTCC, but based on last weekend’s evidence it will certainly not be the last. He looked set for another exciting performance in the day’s second race as he started in pole position again, only for a forceful overtaking attempt by Rob Collard to result in contact that forced his damaged Toyota to pull out of the race for repair. This put Tom at the back of the grid for the final race of the day, but despite this he fought back to miss out on points by just half a second.
Our Managing Director, Chris Hansford, who was in the pit lane to congratulate Tom, said: “We’re absolutely delighted for Tom and the Speedworks Motorsport team. They’ve put in an astonishing amount of time and effort to reach such a high, competitive level and this win is nothing short of what they deserve. Tom has shown what he’s capable of and we’re sure that the other drivers have now realised what we’ve known for a very long time: that the sky really is the limit for him.”
Tom will be racing again on 16-17 April at Donington Park. You can keep up to date with Tom’s progress in this season’s BTCC by following us on Twitter (@HansfordSensors), Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn.
