Ingram wins again at thrilling Silverstone

Tom Ingram made it two wins in two years at the home of racing this past weekend, earning two podiums and 50 points.

After a frustrating few months, Hansford Sensors-sponsored Tom was back to his best during a thrilling weekend at Silverstone. Spectators bore witness to a remarkable series of races, filled with incidents and world class driving.

The weekend started well for Tom, who placed second in qualifying just 0.001 seconds behind Jack Goff. However, classy driving enabled him to nip ahead of Goff in the first race, before it was halted at lap 18 due to a huge shunt involving WSR BMW drivers Andrew Jordan and Robert Collard and Will Burns’ Volkswagen CC.

After a lengthy clear up period, the safety car returned to the pits at the end of lap 19 in preparation for a race restart but, as Tom sped away off the final corner and across the start/finish line, a red flag was shown. Officials decided not to restart the race and Tom was declared the winner as a result.

The final two races of the day proved less eventful, but no less enjoyable. Goff passed Tom on lap three, before building up a convincing four second gap, leaving Tom to fend off Colin Turkington and championship leader Ashley Sutton to secure second place. Race three then saw previous race winners Tom and Goff drop places – Tom to fourth and Goff to ninth – with Matt Neal, Rob Huff and Dave Newsham earning the podium places.

With the 50 points accrued at Silverstone, Tom is now fourth in the overall Drivers’ Standings – just one point behind three-time champion Gordon Shedden. Tom’s team, Speedworks, also sit fourth in the Team Standings, while both Tom and Speedworks are first in the respective Independent tables.

The final race weekend of the season takes place on Saturday 30th September and Sunday 1st October 2017 at Brands Hatch. Tom will be aiming to put in another strong performance and edge up the leader boards.
