Shaking things up in Europe

An EU funded project has been making waves this week.

Wibrate is a consortium of European companies that have come together to develop a wireless, self-powered vibration monitoring and control platform.

The USP of the project is the use of vibration sensors that operate ‘collaboratively’ to predict impending failures, perform fault diagnosis or provide real-time feedback. You can watch more about the project here.

What’s been proven by this project already, and something that is true of our services also, is that vibration monitoring saves money. The case study used by Wibrate cites SouthEastern Railways saving €12,000 per train on maintenance costs. It’s also a good example of how keeping the trains in working order, keeps the wider rail network in good operational shape.

We’ve got our own examples of vibration monitoring paying for itself, such as our work for a shipping company, you can also read a previous blog for some more persuasive stats. When the savings, not only financial, but also in time and stress are so great, using vibration monitoring should be an essential for all types of business.

What this project emphasises and as we discussed last time, is the growth potential currently identified in the sensor market. Through the use of traditional and development of new monitoring techniques, we’re well placed to deliver good vibrations for all.
