VIBRATION SENSORS FOR MARINE APPLICATIONS

Industrial accelerometers, 4-20mA transmitters and loop powered vibration sensors and systems for use in on-board vessels and in dockside equipment, including pumps, fans, gearboxes, generators and main turbines.

VIBRATION MONITORING FOR MARINE SYSTEMS

Condition monitoring and the use of preventative maintenance techniques are becoming increasingly critical in the marine sector, as both vessel and port operators look for ways to improve levels of equipment productivity while reducing overall operating costs.

Key to this process is the use of vibration monitoring, using accelerometers or vibration transmitters to monitor the condition of a wide range of shore based and on-board equipment, including cargo pumps, turbochargers, podded propulsors, ventilation fans and, on cruise ships, building services systems.

At Hansford Sensors we manufacture a full range of vibration sensors to help your business meet the challenges of monitoring and maintaining a wide range of plant and machinery, including turbine shafts and generator bearings, as well as specialised deck and cargo handling equipment.

Selecting the best accelerometer or vibration sensor for marine applications depends on a number of factors. These include:

  • Availability of the plant
  • Cost of breakdown
  • Criticality of the machine/impact on the production process
  • Access to machine, guarding, health and safety implications
  • Environmental factors

We can provide solutions for both online and offline monitoring, with all our industrial accelerometers being designed for use in the toughest environments, including hazardous areas.

INDUSTRIAL ACCELEROMETERS & SYSTEMS FOR THE MARINE SECTOR

We offer a wide range of industrial accelerometers for marine applications. These include our proven AC sensors (HS-100 Series), which feature a 100mV/g output. This makes it quick and simple to connect to a remote switch or connection box (HS-BE), allowing standard handheld data collectors to be used to gather critical data.

For high temperature applications, such as turbochargers, our advanced high temperature accelerometers (HS-105 Series) can be fitted to ensure consistent and accurate readings. These sensors can be wired either to a local connection box or via multi-core cabling to a higher level monitoring and control system.

For hazardous area applications, such as cargo pumps in oil tankers or LPG carriers, we provide a range of ATEX approved HS-100I intrinsically safe accelerometers. These are easy to install and setup and in common with all our ship-board devices are designed to be used in earth-free circuits.

Typical solutions include:

Cruise ship

  • HS-100 Series general purpose 100mV/g AC vibration sensors
  • HS-420 4-20mA vibration transmitters for remote data monitoring
  • HS-100F low frequency sensor for slow rotating machinery
  • HS-500 vibration modules for local display and alarm function
  • HS-SE local switch and connection boxes
  • HS-100I intrinsically safe accelerometers
