Vibration is a very convenient indicator of equipment condition. It is standardised and has specific alarm values. To measure vibration, a special device is used – a vibration meter. They allow you to assess the condition of the equipment and diagnose defects in the equipment.
Where Vibration Measurement is Required
The modern manufacturing industry requires continuous monitoring of many process parameters and equipment conditions.
Monitoring of vibration parameters is necessary in a variety of areas: in semiconductor electronics (vibration monitoring of crystal growing plants), in microelectronics, in mechanical engineering (vibration of machine tools and parts), in the automotive industry, in railway transport (train proximity sensors), in energy, in aircraft industry, etc.
Vibrometer types
There is a wide range of vibration measurement devices available for various applications. They can be divided into types
By purpose
- to measure the vibration of rotating equipment;
- to measure the vibration affecting a person (for the purposes of labour protection).
By functionality
- Vibro meters – measure only the integral value of vibration;
- Vibration analysers – additionally measure the vibration signal and spectrum.
By number of measurement channels
- Single channel;
- Multichannel.
By way of use
- Portable vibration meters. The smallest ones are also called “vibrating pens”;
- Stationary. In this case, sensors are installed on the unit and the data received from them is constantly monitored.
